Context: The children have been exploring the traditions and celebrations associated with the Christian festival of Easter.
Learning Intentions: To talk about and recogise the ways that Christians celebrate Easter (PSED).
To select colours and tools in a simple paint program (KUW).
To choose colours and tools for a purpose (CD).

Success Criteria:
I know/can use different tools and colours to decorate a Easter Egg.
Key Vocabulary: festival, celebrate, Easter, pattern, colour, tool, mouse, click, palette, paintbrush, size, undo, print.

You will need: simple paint program.

Demonstrate choosing tools and colours to decorate the Easter egg.


 

In talking pairs, ask the children to plan the tools, tool sizes and colours that they are going to use:
What colour is your Easter egg going to be? Which tools are you going to use? What size brush are you going to use?

The children use the print icon to print their work.
Activity one:
You will need:

Ask children to fill the striped egg by creating a repeating pattern using the fill can tool.

Activity two:
You will need:
hard boiled eggs, paint, glue, glitter.
The children paint and decorate hard boiled eggs.

Activity three:
You will need:
Internet conection, Easter Basket template

Children create their own Easter basket. Then fill it with straw and chocolate eggs.
Why not decorate it with chicks made out of two yellow circles or simple flowers?

Activity one:
You will need:
paper, scissors, paint, glue collage materials.
Children cut out an egg shape from different sizes and colours of paper. They then decorate their egg shape using paint or collage materials.


Discuss what happens when coloured tissue paper strips are put on top of each other. Compare this with the water colour effect in Colour Magic.

Activity two:
You will need: colour mixer.

Explore mixing colours and filling the easter egg template.

Thinking Questions: Why did you use the fill tool? How did you change the size of the paint brush?
Why did you use the undo button?
How would you improve your design?
Why are eggs important at Easter? Can you think of another way that Christians celebrate Easter?

Plenary/Recall: Share the Easter egg designs, discuss how the children would improve their designs and what they might do differently next time. Display the children's work with other signs and symbols of Easter.up
