Controlling lights on the Roamer
Louise Symons, Sheldwich Primary School

Connecting the lights
You are going to connect two lights, and program the Roamer to switch them on. Look at the lights you are using. If they are clear, you can connect the wires either way round. If you are using the coloured lights, connect each wire to a terminal of matching colour.

For the first light, connect one wire to red Output terminal 1, and the other wire to the green Ground terminal next to it. For the second light, connect one wire to red terminal 2, and the other wire to the green Ground terminal next to it.

Programming the Roamer
The Roamer will only keep the lights on while it is doing something else. When you want the Roamer to turn on the lights you need to write this into your program. This is how you do it:

First, tell the Roamer to communicate with the Output Terminals.

  • Next, give the number of the Terminal.
  • Last, tell the Roamer to set the terminal High by entering 2.

You have connected a light to Output Terminal 1 and to Output Terminal 2, so you need to give these instructions for both terminals.

To switch the lights off, enter 1 to change the state from High to Low.

Driving through a tunnel
Make a tunnel for the Roamer to drive through. Can you program the Roamer to switch its lights on in the tunnel and switch them off when it comes out ?

This is my program. Can you work out what the Roamer is going to do?
