Creating the Presentation

To make a start, we demonstrated the use of Power Point through the data projector. We asked the question, should we make use of the program Wizard or should we create a blank presentation?

The children decided that they would prefer to use a blank presentation and then agreed on their own background colour scheme.

PowerPoint contains a number of 'Wizards' that can help you with various tasks in the program

The Wizard will ask you questions and present you with a number of options, making your task much easier, although choice is limited.

If required, users can ignore the Wizard and complete tasks themselves.

Skills we had to teach the children

How to open the PowerPoint software.

How to insert a new slide and then decide which slide template to use.

How to Insert a Text Box.

How to Format the background.

The children then started work using their pen and paper designs as a guideline. They spent some time experimenting with the background of the slide and it was at this point during experimental learning that one of the children discovered the Fill Effects button. The children were now hooked and spent much of their lunch breaks designing their slides.

To create a shaded background select Format> Background.

Click the menu to display the colours then select Fill Effects.

Choose the colours and the shading effect you require
