Introducing animation and sound

In this session, with many of the graphics on the slides complete, we introduced animation and sound.

Adding an animation

  1. Select the Slide Show menu then Custom Animation.
  2. Select the Effects tab.
  3. Select the item to animate and the order for the animations to take place in.
  4. Add sound effect.

Animations in PowerPoint are achieved by selecting an item on a slide and choosing the way that item will be displayed on the slide.

The children really enjoyed this part. One group decided to record their own sound effects. This was achieved by attaching a microphone to the computer. They played musical instruments to create wind effects and narrated a poem they had written on the slide.

Recording a sound effect

  1. Display the slide that you want to add sound to.
  2. Select Insert > Movies and Sounds then click Record Sound.
  3. Click Record then Stop when finished. A sound icon then appears on the slide.

PowerPoint comes with several pre-recorded sounds that can be played to accompany an animation, or when a sound icon on the slide is clicked.

Children can also record their own sounds for each slide.

To animate the sound so that it plays automatically in an animation sequence, select the sound icon, right click the mouse and select Custom Animation... then select the options you want.
