The aim of this site is to
links every National Curriculum programme of study to high-quality,
relevant teaching resources.
Navigation
You can access the national Curriculum
by selecting a subject block from the top of the home page.
Once having selected a subject the
following menu is available.
By selecting 'Find pupils' work and information
about standards' you will be connected to:
National
Curriculum in action. Here you will find examples of pupils' work
with commentary to show how the programmes of study translate into
real activities and the expected standard of work at each level.
There are two ways to search for examples:
1. Quick search:
this allows you to search by subject and key stage and level(optional).
This will lead you to a list of examples.
2. Advanced search:
search for a specific area of the curriculum or unit of the schemes
of work. A search for ICT - KS2 and Unit 5b will lead you to an example
of work using a database to research properties of materials linked
to the Science curriculum. Each example has a commentary on the work,
screenshots of the pupils' work and information about the units covered.
The commentary on each piece of work includes a description of the
activity, the objectives and the level of work illustrated. In some
cases there are indications of how this activity could have been extended
to allowed the child to reach the next level.Clearly this is useful
in assisting teachers to arrive at a judgement on the level of their
own pupils' work. The links to other subjects are especially useful
when trying to develop cross curricula activities especially in a
subject such as ICT.
Other features
The level descriptions
are clearly set out and show the progression through a subject.
Recent additions to the site include work in PSHE and citizenship.
The Discussion area
This conference facility was launched with the Virtual Teacher Centre
and provides the opportunity for teachers and other educators to discuss
current or other issues. Once in the discussion area you are free
to browse the messages but to post a message, you will need to register.
The discussion area is divided into curriculum subjects and as you
would expect ICT has the most postings closely followed by Literacy!
Links to other websites
Whenever possible there are links to other websites to support
the examples of work. There are useful links at the foot of the ncaction
home page.

There is a full and user-friendly

Evaluation
There are many useful features of
this site. From here it is easy to access the National Curriculum
and the schemes of work. The pupils' examples of work allow teachers
to see what is expected for each unit. However,at the moment the number
of examples available is fairly limited and often show the integrated
task suggested in the QCA schemes of work. Hopefully in the future
there will be additional examples which will suggest alternative ways
of covering the schemes of work.
Provided that the number of examples grows with regular additions,
this site will form a helpful resource for informing teachers about
expectations, standards and levels. It will enable teachers to form
a better understanding of what is required in each subject of the
curriculum. When considering planning for integrating ICT into other
subjects this site provides useful starting points.
