RM Tablet PC reviewed |
|
The world of ICT is in flux. There's been a succession of new products which, we are told, are faster and easier-to-use than ever before. Microsoft are heavily promoting the Tablet PC, claiming that it "represents a new era of mobile, powerful, versatile computing for education … With a Tablet PC, you choose how, where, and when you want to work and learn." Anyone who visited BETT this year could not fail to miss the Tablet PC promotion on the RM stand. The demonstration was certainly impressive, and a huge number of useful features for both staff and children were revealed. The national press has also carried reviews of Tablet PCs and how they might be useful to schools. But it's difficult to envisage how such a machine might cope in a primary school situation without seeing it in action. So, that's what I decided to investigate…
I have been using the Tablet PC with my Year 6 children for three months. With the aid of Ben and Olivia, two pupils from my class, I have also been able to spend two days putting the Tablet through its paces.
