Using Digital Imagery and Sound to Develop Writing

A beginners workshop which will make use of still and video images, coupled with sound files, as a resource which can be used to prompt reluctant writers, and generate imaginative thinking.

TARGET PERSONNEL:
Teachers who would like to make more use of digital cameras and sound recording, but aren't sure where to start. This is aimed at the beginner level rather than for teachers who already have expertise in this area.
COURSE AIMS:
To discover simple ways to use pictures and sound in creating useful resources for teaching.
To find out how pupils can start to make use of ICT as a creative and expressive medium for recording ideas, and generating imaginative writing.
COURSE OUTLINE:
The course will cover simple techniques for collecting and editing digital still, video and sound files. We will look at ways of presenting resources, and investigate suitable software and online opportunities for pupils to express themselves.
COURSE BENEFITS:
Teachers will be better equipped to investigate this exciting medium as a tool for generating imaginative thinking and writing by their pupils, and as a resource for capturing ideas by those who find writing a challenge.
OTHER INFORMATION:
Teachers should bring a USB memory stick to take away resources that they make.
Delegates will each receive a copy of Picture the music software for use in school.
