A series of three lessons to encourage the use of drawing for designing

I have written each lesson in an explanatory style, rather than as a formal lesson plan, since that seemed more friendly and conveys the how and why as well as the what to do.

It is a good idea if the children have heard the story of Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown prior to the lesson, although this is not essential. Click here for a synopsis.

All lessons require the Container / Journey metaphor diagram. Click here for a large copy.

Lesson 1 - Flat Stan

Lesson 2 - Round Stan

Lesson 3 - DIY Stan

When the work is finished, you may like to join the Flat Stanley Project in Ontario, Canada for even more ideas and a chance to join up with other schools worldwide. The project focus is on encouraging literacy through sending Flat Stanley figures and diaries to other schools across the world.

Several schools sent paper drawings of their Flat Stanley to other schools.

Your feedback is welcome, especially on these points:
Do you find the Lesson Plans useful?
What parts are clear/unclear?
Does it describe the kind of things you feel comfortable doing with Infants and young Juniors?
How well did it work?
Did the children enjoy the lessons?
What could I do to make it better?
