Digital cameras have great potential in Geography. They can be used to collect evidence, enhance observations and because digital photographs can be attached to e-mails, they can be used to exchange information. A case study of the use of digital cameras in Key Stage 1 Internet and maaping software are an extremely useful resource. Pupils can find maps of the UK and the world simply by typing in the name of an area. Areas of the maps may be clicked to show more detail, enhancing children's investigative skills.
Resources for using maps in the classroom
Data handling programs such as spreadsheets and databases allow children to analyse information quickly and easily. Survey data can be displayed in different types of graphs. Databases of information may be searched to find answers to children's geographical questions.
An example of the use of databases in a locality study Using ICT to present information Using ICT to present information helps children to organise their thinking and develop their communication skills. ICT can be applied in a number of ways, from using the word processor in sequencing activities to using presentation software to argue a point.
