Key areas for ICT in Geography
1. Enhancing Skills of Geographical Enquiry with ICT

Digital Camera

Digital cameras have great potential in Geography. They can be used to collect evidence, enhance observations and because digital photographs can be attached to e-mails, they can be used to exchange information.

Internet and maaping software are an extremely useful resource. Pupils can find maps of the UK and the world simply by typing in the name of an area. Areas of the maps may be clicked to show more detail, enhancing children's investigative skills.

Data handling programs such as spreadsheets and databases allow children to analyse information quickly and easily. Survey data can be displayed in different types of graphs. Databases of information may be searched to find answers to children's geographical questions.

Data logging equipment enables children to collect real information during fieldwork and analyse it later in the classroom.

Using ICT to present information

Using ICT to present information helps children to organise their thinking and develop their communication skills. ICT can be applied in a number of ways, from using the word processor in sequencing activities to using presentation software to argue a point.
