Differentiating the work

Evaluation

The children enjoyed using the new books "Living in St. Lucia". They found them easy to use. Many were observed using the contents page to find answers to their questions. The books are colourful, well illustrated, written in a readable manner.

Every child found them interesting. The less able were able to find their answers in the pictures and in discussion were found to have absorbed a lot of facts. The more able had read the scripts to find their information.

Using maps and aerial photographs, the more able were challenged to find Castries and features in the harbour.

The whole class looked at a world map, a Caribbean map, a map of St. Lucia and worked using the map cards and "Living in St. Lucia".

Special needs children made a map of St. Lucia from shapes cut out. They used the main map to identify orientation and features they wanted to include - discussion with the children helped them to include a key to the map, main towns, roads and rivers.
