ACTIVITIES

EVALUATION

Pursued through key questions

  • Where is this place?
  • What is it like?
  • What do people do in Godstone?
  • What environmental issues are there?

POS 1 and 2: to investigate the village of Godstone through second hand resources before a fieldwork visit and follow up.
Pupils through the use of photos (POS 3e) and maps (POS 3d) find out about the main physical and human features of the place (POS 5a), its location in relation to other places (POS 5e, 1d) and the issue of major routes bringing traffic through the village (POS 10a).

The study of photos enables pupils to:

  • look at familliar images and enable them to explain similarities and differences with our locality.
  • encourage enquiry learning
  • develop a sense of place about the distant locality.
Pupils really benefited from this focused mini enquiry using photos. When they visited Godstone they quickly spotted the location of their photo and were all the more motivated, already having some recognition of the place.
Photographs used came from 'Discover Godstone', a contrasting U.K. locality pack, Wildgoose Publications.
