| 1. Textbooks and schemes
The purchasing of one set of textbooks as a 'scheme of
work' to satisfy National Curriculum requirements is not recommended.
No one scheme can fit a primary school's individual approach to geography
within the context of its own curriculum. However, it is recognised that
textbooks can be extremely useful if used as resources in a variety of
ways: -
By
using certain pages, sections and chapters of the book as a group or class
activity to support
planned
units of work from the key stage plan.
To
give teachers information and ideas to use with pupils.
To
be used by pupils for their own enquiry.
However, there are times when subject leaders may find
it useful to have a set of textbooks available to guide and support teachers
who feel uncertain in this curriculum area, as long as the books are relevant
to the appropriate units of work.
Many of the current schemes have been rewritten in light
of the 1995 Revised Order. Others are being replaced, and many completely
new schemes have come onto the market. Schemes listed here have been published
after l990.

Folens Geography (age 5-7).
