Write a report to the local council ICT Link Units 4A
Identify an area in the locality that has not been cared for, in groups use WP software to write a report to send to the local council describing how the environment is being affected and asking if there are any plans to improve the area. A writing frame such as a Clicker Grid or a Textease wordbank could be used to help structure the report and help with vocabulary.
Role Play - Who is affected by the traffic? ICT Link
Divide the class into groups and allocate a range of roles to each e.g. shopkeeper, parent, delivery driver, fireman etc. Ask each group to debate the issue of traffic on the high street and arrive at a solution. The debate could be videoed and shown to whole school for a whole school debate.
Design a survey - Should the high street be closed to traffic?
With the children’s help, design and carry out a survey of the views of people in the town, taking care to find out what people think are the benefits and drawbacks of closing the high street to traffic. Children could fill in their survey as if they were shopkeeper, parent, delivery driver, fireman etc.

Ask each Character group to prepare a presentation of its views on traffic on the high street. When each group has made its presentation to the class, take a vote to determine the best plan for the high street.

Show the children how to create objects to represent buildings, street furniture etc. Ask them to produce plans for the High Street development.
