Location

The
source of the Angara is the south-western end of Lake Baikal. Over three
hundren small streams enter Lake Baikal from the surrounding hills.
The Angara is the only river which flows out of Lake Baikal. The Angara
is a major tributary of the Yenisei river.
The mouth of the Angara is where it joins the Yenisei river.

The
Angara and hydro-electric power
A chain
of dams were built in the
1960's to make hydro-electric power for the industrial region of Irkutsk.
The dams also make electricity for people's homes. The Bratsk dam is
the best known. There are paper mills and other factories along the
Angara, all of which get their power from the dams. The dams and factories
have caused a lot of pollution
in the Angara River and the surrounding countryside.
