28: Site Diagrams 1

These pictures show site diagrams of some imaginary rivers. A site diagram is a labelled sketch of the part of the river you are looking at.

1) Look at the diagram above. Label the following:

- boulders (grey)
- clumps of grass (green)

2) The water is flowing in the direction of the arrow from the source to the mouth. Imagine you are standing in the river facing the mouth.
Label the right bank and the left bank using capital letters.

3) Draw a red arrow -----> between the largest boulder and the right bank, to show the fastest flow of water.

5) Label the following:

- boulders (colour them grey)
- stones or pebbles (colour them brown)
- clumps of grass
- left bank
- right bank

6) Draw a line of yellow x's x x x x x to show an area where you think there might be some deposition of material.

7) What material / sediment might be deposited?

9) Label an area where there might have been erosion on the river banks.

Look carefully at the left bank.

10) What clue is there on the site diagram to tell you that there might have been erosion on the left bank?
