Why did Henry VIII marry six times?

Be able to place the Tudors within the context of Britain's history; make inferences and deductions from portraits; know about the work of a Tudor monarch; know in outline the story of Henry VIII's life; identify different ways in which people have represented and interpreted it; be able to communicate their knowledge and understanding orally and in writing.

Create a Branching Database ICT Link Unit 4C Branching database
Show the children how to create a branching database. For example, make a poster showing the branching structure, so that children can see how the computer version is constructed. Explain that they are going to create a branching database to identify each of Henry VIII’s wives.

Remind children of the need to construct yes/no questions, and discuss the sort of questions that might be asked, e.g. Was she beheaded? Did she have any children?

The children work in pairs to create a branching database that identifies Henry’s wives.

Ask each group to test the others’ databases.

Write a newspaper report or be a news reporter. The Headlines History site contains 6 editions of real newspapers Tudor reports. The idea is that pupils become reporters on these newspapers. They can read and talk about the newspaper stories and then go on to interview up to 30 characters per era (through streaming video playback). These characters have witnessed the events which make up the six front page leads. Know and understand the distinctive features of rich and poor people in Tudor times; use a range of sources to reconstruct aspects of life; summarise the main aspects of life for rich and poor people; compare and contrast aspects of Tudor life with today.

Children create a menu for a Tudor banquet listing food and drink. They design a border for the menu using images associated with the Tudors e.g. rose

Create a multimedia presentation titled 'The Tudors'.

Create a multimedia presentation titled 'What I know about life in Tudor times'. In their presentations they answer the following key questions: What were the advantages of being rich in Tudor times? What were the advantages of being poor in Tudor times? Would you have liked to live at this time as a rich or poor person?
