James and the Giant Peach
A Literacy Hour scheme of work supported by ICT resources and activities

Sharon Baker and Margaret Freeman, Herne CE Junior School

The Year 3 teachers at Herne Junior School have been using Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach in the Literacy Hour. They have developed a series of worksheets in Microsoft Word which can be used by children during the Literacy Hour.

The scheme of work aims to fulfil objectives identified in the Literacy Framework. For many of the activities, there is a worksheet which can be downloaded in Word 97 format. The worksheets can be saved as templates and completed on the computer by children. While the focus is on Literacy, children have the opportunity to practise and consolidate ICT skills at the same time.
