Background
This project was made possible with the help
of Class Two (Year R/1) with their teacher Mrs Thurman at St Mary's
Primary School, and Class One (Year R) with Mr Storey at Sherington
Infant School near Milton Keynes.
The project was a continuation of
an established link with the school that I had made during the first
year of owning a BECTa laptop. During this year we had individual
children making personal contact through e-mails, the use of picture
and sound attachments and conventional mail. In July the two classes
met at London Zoo. This was sponsored by donations from BECTa, Volkswagen
Audi Group and the school PTAs. BECTa complimented our involvement
and the children's positive attitudes to a new medium of communication.
Objectives
To enable children to use ICT with confidence.
To
send e-mail, and understand that others will receive our messages.
To
understand that information can be presented in different forms, such
as grids, descriptions and pictures.
To
support the development of speaking and listening skills.
