Why use a data projector?
These are some of the attractions of the data projector as a tool in teaching Literacy:
  • Work can be word processed on a laptop computer so that the class can share the text together.
  • Text can be changed and different effects are immediately obvious to the class.
  • The highlighting tool in MS Word allows whole class teaching of vocabulary and punctuation.
  • A piece of narrative or poetry can be examined in detail or considered as a collection of words and phrases.
  • Pupils enjoy seeing their ideas for editing text on the screen.
  • Pupils have the opportunity to experiment with vocabulary, fonts and layout in both prose and poetry.
  • Discussion is encouraged when redrafting text.

Having identified these potential benefits, I wished to explore the advantages of the large display in my teaching with texts. Additionally, I hoped the use of ICT in Literacy teaching would have appeal for boys and raise their interest in creative writing.
