Every primary school was provided with an Intel QX Microscope during Science Year in 2002. If you would like to buy another one please have a look at the discounts we have for Kent Schools.
It is very easy to use, the software comes with the microscope and with easily followed instructions, it instantly displays on your computer screen mini beasts, hair and skin and anything else you'd care to put under the lens.
Ideas for using the Microscope in each Year Group
Using the intel microscope in a cross curricular activity on seeds
The Intel microscope links to the computer by a USB lead. The software enables you to view objects through the microscope and see them on the computer screen. This image could also easily be projected on to a large screen and/or whiteboards so that the whole class could take part in a discussion or investigation. There is nothing better than having a mini beast on the screen and being able to annotate around it!
Photographs of the images taken can be captured and added to written descriptions. The microscope can also be used to take time lapse movies to allow pupils to examine the ways in which materials change over a period of time.
The following site has an excellent materials quiz powerpoint presentation. It is based around images taken from an intel microscope.
