It is important that the ICT supports the work of growing plants and does not replace it. For this reason, the use of a digital camera would seem to be a excellent way of recording the growth of a plant.

Points to remember when photographing growth.

  • Take the pictures from the same angle.
  • Place a ruler next to the plant so that it is possible to see the scale. Otherwise, the angle of the photograph may distort the impression.
  • Take photographs at regular intervals.
  • If the measurements are to be recorded in a database, consider problems of weekends, half terms and bank holidays. There may be gaps in the data!

The photographs can lead to an interesting classroom display and give a comparison from year to year, especially if other variables such as temperature and sunlight are recorded.
