Opportunities for ICT in Science

Year 4: Keeping Cool
ICT focus Collecting and presenting information
Main activity Using temperature sensors to measure temperature in insulated and uninsulated containers.
Suggested resources LogIT, DataMeter, RM Detector, Number Magic with sensors

Data logging equipment may be used to monitor continuous change. Experiments to log cooling over a fairly short time span are a good use of the equipment.

Many schools in Kent have sensors which work with RM Number Magic. The disadvantage of these is that they are not calibrated. The recordings can only be made once per second. The resulting graphs will require some teacher-led discussion to interpret them.
