Weather Watch Online Music Concert Tuesday 1 July 2008
Schools are invited to take part in an “On-Line” Music concert from 1- 3 p.m. on Tuesday 1st July 2008. During this session pupils will have the opportunity to use video conferencing (Flashmeeting) to perform instrumental music or songs they have composed about the weather to pupils across the world.
Pupils from all schools in Kent are eligible to take part in this activity.
To register for a child, group of children or class to take part all you must do is complete and return the booking form to Maryan Wyles (PA to the Primary ICT Team) by Friday 20th June.
Confirmation notices will be forwarded to all schools on receipt of the completed booking form.
The only equipment schools will require is a standard webcam (with in-built microphone) and speakers. To enable the whole class to watch the performance “live” teachers might choose in advance of the event to link their PC/laptop to the class Interactive Whiteboard.
Schools can request to perform up to 3 musical pieces. The three pieces will be consecutive numbers unless the school asks for different times.
Pupils can perform their own compositions of any musical style, stimulated by or describing an aspect of the weather (i.e. rain, sun, clouds). These may be instrumental pieces using classroom instruments and sound-makers or songs.
All pupils will be expected to publish their children’s work on 'Making the News' by Friday 27th June. Each pupil’s article should include a brief description about what there music represents together with an accompanying picture plus an mp3 recording of the composition. To enable pupils to record their compositions teachers are encouraged to download a copy of “Audacity” the free sound recording and editing application. Audacity web-site: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Leading ICT Teachers and Project Teachers will also be available to visit schools and assist teachers recording and publishing pupils work. To discuss ICT support please contact: Karl Bentley (ASONE ICT AST) Oaktree Primary School, Ashford Judith Adelsberg (Thanet 1 and 2) Thanet 1 and 2 HOS Coordinator
All schools will receive following the Concert a set of certificates for all the pupils who have taken part plus a CD of the performed music. Schools will also be given (where permission has been obtained) the URL address to the FlashMeeting to enable pupils to replay the experience to family, relatives and friends.
